What We're Reading: Deanell Recommends

I love it when I enjoy one book so much that I'm compelled to read something else by that author.

Last year I read A Homemade Life by Molly Wizenberg. It's one woman’s memories about food and growing up cooking with her parents. Each chapter ends with a childhood recipe, a tribute to her father who died when she was in graduate school. The ending includes the romantic details of how her blog led to meeting her soon-to-be husband. It was happy reading for me.

That experience drew me to Wizenberg’s second book, Delancey. This book is structured in the same way: short chapters ending with a recipe. This time around, I wasn't as captivated by the recipes, but the story is very engaging. Delancey is a memoir that details the trials Wizenberg and her husband experienced when they opened a restaurant within a couple of years of getting married.

It was interesting and fun to read. And I found myself not wanting to put it down.
