What We're Reading: Heather Recommends

Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom – the wonderful duology by Leigh Bardugo – are just the kind of novels that make you think, “I’ve never read anything quite like this. ”I recently finished these compelling books, but how do I describe them? The plot running through both books revolves around a complex, thrilling, and altogether brilliant heist.

But that’s only one element.

There are also fantasy veins running through the books – think magical chemistry – with some characters having the ability to manipulate matter on a fundamental level. But there’s even more. These are also stories of revenge, redemption, tragedy, and love. And Bardugo's characters are deeply-rendered and diverse.

I loved Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom so much that I was genuinely sad when the wild ride ended. I will miss these characters and hope this duology eventually turns into a trilogy so I can immerse myself again.
