A Team Retreat Worth Having!
Our trip to Larkspur brought cohesion, learning, and a deeper sense of workplace community.
For the first time in three years, our team was able to get together for several days in Larkspur, Colorado. We took time to learn, do some deep work, play together, plan for the future, and celebrate our 20 years in business. I am so grateful for our time together. That investment is already paying dividends in terms of a renewed sense of purpose, motivation, and commitment to one another, our work, and our clients.
Fostering connection is vital with any team, but especially for those who are virtual. When planning for the retreat, we were intentional and deliberate about how (and where) we spent our time. We:
Pursued a challenging but not overwhelming agenda
Captured ideas and planned for the future
Allowed for spontaneity
Gave opportunities for each team member to teach something to the group (we learned how to make chocolate truffles, tried a new card game, refreshed our etiquette, and practiced meditation)
Chose a location different from our desks or typical meeting place
Provided plenty of social time as well as adequate alone time
Gave opportunities for physical activity—we began each day with yoga and took breaks for nature walks
Celebrated our anniversary with a homemade Mediterranean-inspired eight-course meal and an in-house concert performed by Graham Good (our teammate Laura’s son)
Built relationships and had an immense amount of fun!
